About This Project

The Sensory Journey of Purgatorio: Packaging with Unique and Inclusive Design

Explore the timeless world of PURGATORIO, packaging inspired by Dante’s masterwork, the Divine Comedy.
PURGATORIO transports anyone who holds it in their hands on a journey from the darkness of hell’s Inferno, through purgatory, to the bright stars of heaven.

Inclusivity at the Heart of Design

The design of PURGATORIO is not just a work of art, but also a visual manifesto of inclusivity. Careful selection of high-legibility fonts and the presence of Braille open the door to inclusiveness, which is further expanded thanks to an NFC tag.

PURGATORIO achieves an unprecedented level of interactivity, allowing anyone to explore its meaning in an innovative and engaging manner.

Materials and Printing Techniques which Encourage Inclusiveness

From Estal DA ATTICO 100ml Extra Flint for the bottle to Fasson® Velvet Black for the lower label, every detail of PURGATORIO has been chosen with care. The printing techniques, from the embossing to the hot foil, make this bottle not only a visual, but also a tactile pleasure, incorporating cutting-edge inclusive elements.

Accessibility for All: PURGATORIO is committed to ensuring clear comprehension of the text for everybody, and in particular the visually impaired, using high-legibility fonts issued by the Braille Institute. A study involving the thicknesses of the Braille on the label was carefully developed, considering the texture of the papers, to allow easy tactile reading.

Packaging becomes audible: The PURGATORIO label becomes a listening experience thanks to the integration of an NFC tag, which provides a direct connection to a web page that can be read and listened to. The audio label is an inclusive element, developed by Eurolabel with significant assistance from the Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano (Milan institute for the blind) to guarantee a greater level of accessibility.

A dialogue of inclusion: Thanks to the precious exchange with Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano, we received significant feedback which allowed us to enhance the packaging design for PURGATORIO, making it even more inclusive. Working in partnership with associations of disabled people is essential in order to identify the challenges and implement innovative solutions which satisfy everybody’s needs.
